Hi, I'm Emily, the Founder and a Director of My Purple Compass. I'm 24, and currently dividing my time between the UK and Rio De Janeiro, where I'm working as an accessibility consultant for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games. I also do a bit of travel writing, disability awareness training with the wonderful Enhance the UK, and TV presenting. I love hair dye, patterns, colour and tattoos, but it hasn't always been so easy to be a fashionable wheelchair user...
Let's face it, disability is rarely seen as stylish or sexy, but why not?! Crutches, commodes and car aids are often grey, clinical and pretty drab-looking, but I've always questioned why this has to be the case. People with disabilties may well want to have polka-dot wheels, travel to a far flung place without a hitch, or even get hitched in their dream venue - all with breath-taking access for all. Here, at My Purple Compass, the aim is to make these dreams that bit easier to reach.
I'm so passionate about this business, and I want to review the best products and venues out there that'll possibly make everyday life and special occasions more enjoyable for us all. Not all of them have leopard print design options and groovy names, but we're working on that! :) Together, let's break the barriers of travel, sex, representation and fashion for the disabled community, and have some fun along the way!
Fingers crossed for a great journey,
