Steady Middle Aged Businessman wltm Creative Young Entrepreneur – Anything Goes!
I remember meeting Em two years ago on a 'business blind date'. We’d been introduced by a mutual friend who knew that I am in the healthcare supplies business and thought that we should hook up, all for sound commercial reasons of course. When she arrived at our offices this boundless burst of colourful “Emergy” burst through the door, and I was instantly grabbed. For those who have ever met Em’ you know how it is to have all your senses invaded by that Emergy.
As people we’ve not got a lot in common – I’m in my 50’s, married, 2 grown up kids, a long way through a steady and predictable career path zzzzz – Emily is in her 20’s, not married, no kids and just starting out on an exciting career path with the world at her feet. But we did have some things in common - those were an open mind and a sense for creating a business which could do three things – in a crowded and chaotic online world deliver a platform dedicated to helping the disabled community smile and feel great, take us on a journey which would be fun and get us both well out of our comfort zones, and finally would hopefully make us a bit of money at some stage in the future.
It’s nearly two years since that first blind date, and it hasn’t always been an easy business relationship – we’ve definitely had to learn loads from each other and there’ve been times when we thought that we’d never get www.mypurplecompass.co.uk off the ground. Even in the last few days before launch we made some big changes but a few weeks ago the site went live and that’s fantastic news for us.
So, we are in business now, although we’re not absolutely certain how we’ll make any money from the site, but there’s a bit of time for that still.
